Willis-Knighton Health System Proton Therapy Addition

Shreveport, Louisiana

Aggressive Client Demands Dynamic New Solution

Schematic documents are underway for a three-story, 49,800 sf Proton Therapy Center addition to the Willis-Knighton Cancer Center in Shreveport, Louisiana. The proton therapy system, housed in a 1-1/2 story concrete vault, consists of a cyclotron, beam transport system and gantry treatment delivery system.

The first floor of the new addition will house the Proton Therapy Center and includes exam rooms, dressing areas, a special procedure room, administrative space, offices, training/conference room, consultation rooms, facility support areas and the treatment room/vault. The second and third floors will be shelled construction for future clinical/physician use. A portion of the third floor will provide equipment support and storage areas for the proton unit. Although the new addition is an extension of the existing Cancer Center that was constructed in 1999, a new entry, entrance drive and canopy will give the Proton Therapy Center its own identity.
