Prototype - Critical Access Hospital

Efficient Design, Lower Cost

This 49,129 sf prototype Critical Access Hospital designed by TEG is an efficient design that allows for all required functions within minimum square footage standards. This design permits the individual hospital departments to expand for future growth since they are located with exterior walls and can expand outward from the hospital. The Clinic is used for visiting specialty physicians during the day, and with its close proximity to the Emergency Department acts as overflow during high patient volume census.

Another notable feature is the separation of the staff and public corridors. This allows for the staff to move among the ancillary departments and the Med/Surg Unit outside of the public areas. There is also a staff corridor that connects the Emergency Department, Diagnostic Imaging and Surgery. The efficient design and close adjacencies between the departments means that the hospital can reduce the total amount of staff that is needed for the hospital, lowering costs.

In addition, Physical Therapy and Education are two areas that can be moved out of the hospital in the future and into a Medical Office Building so that future acute care services could be added to the hospital.
